I did decades ago, often in a fo-fo-bay done, and later on the back of a road bike or three. More recently I kwadbaaiks warmer drawer done it, and I still do it from time to time on my mountain bike. It is however brave and hiker that I realized the best way to enjoy nature and experience, is by foot.
This realization came during a hike over three days in the foothills of the Hawequa mountains and valleys around Paarl and Wellington, known as the Wellington Wine Walk Obiqualand Tours. I was part of a group of 11 people from a "more mature and wise" age group.
The first day's walk - about 15 km - at Diemersfontein warmer drawer near Wellington where we are at the foothills of the Hawequa mountains from and through a pine forest on a carpet of pine needles in the direction of Paarl forestry station warmer drawer before we fynbos boegoeplantasies and olive groves returned "ground" and at Cascade Manor Guest House for a lunch olyfolieproe and stopped. After dinner we passed vineyards and a memorial to African back to our overnight stay.
Apart from the breathtaking scenery, the rich fynbos a pleasant surprise. Different examples of protea, warmer drawer erica thatch and we all greeted and names like agtdae-cured bunch, bird-can-not-put-it, little monkey, Wild Rosemary and pendants as praise for nature in our ears sounded. This is in addition to the variety of birds's loud and incessant welcome!
Jeanetta Ingwerson and Gretel Joubert, our two guides for the day were fountains of information and interesting stories, and the whole nature experience so much nicer made. They also saw the goats for stragglers walk away and the entire trail so a relaxed atmosphere given.
Our last stop of the day was in the basement of the boetiekwynplaas, Pressure Not me (021-868-2393), where the young, charismatic winemaker, Abraham de Klerk, we learned a lot of wine. That night I was in one of the two comfortable selfsorgkothuisies warmer drawer Push Me Not with their stunning views over the Paarl Valley (and a provocative pool!) Left.
Day two walk - about 20 miles - Pressure around me not to the four-star Augusta Country warmer drawer Lodge, my next overnight stop, start, and from there to the direction of Wellington with Gretel warmer drawer and Judy Elliot guides. We are once again the foothills of the Hawequa mountains from around Kleinboskoppie and then down the valley and through boegoeplantasies and vineyards to Lookout where Marijke du Plessis us in the bush kitchen entertained with all kinds of stories of grapevines, buchu, olives, jam etc. .
After this, again beating until the Hildenbrand Estate where owner and winemaker Reni Hildenbrand, a former German architect who herself teaches wine, olives and olive oil to make it, our food and wine gassed. warmer drawer
Satisfied and refreshed, and covers all the lazy good food and wine, we set off for the grand Bovlei Valley Retreat on the other side of Wellington where the other ten hikers that night would spend. I'm on my turn Augusta when my weary body in luxury to relax.
The third and final day's action would only be 10 km and halfway up Bainskloof to start. Never mind, we are with Katrin Steytler and Judy, our guides, mini against the pass out to the starting point from which we go through fynbos warmer drawer down the mountain and to our way through vines braided warmer drawer to the maze Estate where we first another slaggie wine tasted. From here we have some distance along the river, and then again when travel to the farm Welvanpas she can return to history even before the Voortrekker leader, Piet Retief, lived there until the age of 26. Welvanpas is still in the possession Retiefs.
Here we ate and drank as if Judgment Day is around the corner, perhaps because the three days were almost warmer drawer ended, too fast, and no one really looking forward to the memories behind us. But now, yes, all good things come wine to an end. Unfortunately.
